On air with Kenny Jones

I was on the bus on my way to office listening to fm on my mobile phone. "On air with Kenny Jones" was running on the channel and they were having a debate. Apparently some rockstar had insured his fingers for few million dollars. So the question to the audience was what part of their body would they be interested in insuring.

Well!! I just SMSed "I would insure my pink floyd definitely ...lol" :-D. Surprise of Surprises I got a call back in cpl of minutes with a deep voice at the other end of the line saying "Hey you are on air with Kenny Jones"!! I just broke out into my hyena laugh ... just couldn't control it despite the fact that a bunch of people on the bus craned their necks to look at where the weird sound was coming from. It took some time to gather myself and when I finally did, Kenny on the otherside of the line asked me the question again, "What part of my body would you insure". I said "My Pink Floyd". Then came the next question "why and how much would you insure it for?". I responded "It probably would run into some millions cos its hardly ever been used" to laughs from the other end of the line. Then they asked me something else, but I really couldn't get what was asked due to the noise on the bus. So they said have a nice day and closed the call.

Anyways ... I wasn't sure if they are really gonna play this on Air. But after a cpl of songs I heard "you are on air with kenny jones" followed by "hahahahaha ..." and other gutteral sounds. They looped the laugh over and over and they didn't play the talking part. pretty disappointed I was ... for having been denied the opportunity to get some cheap limelight :)

Anyways, in retrospect, I should have told them that I would insure my pink floyd for millions cos its gonna be a rock star ... cos he sings "Comfortably numb" very well!!! Anyways, I later asked them to play the same song on air but they refused saying it was too slow for the mornings

Up in the air

"Up in the air" is a beautiful movie. Its one of the best dramas I have seen in a long time. The movie appealed to me for two reasons
  1. I can relate to it at one level since i am one of those people who pefer to keep their luggage to the minimum. The term luggage used not just to mean what you carry when you travel, but used in the context of life itself being a travel.
  2. Fact that I was a practical person to the point of being a cynical and pessimistic.

Depending on whether the cup is half full or half empty in your world view, you either lose hope of any sensible ending (that was my case) or you develop a feel good sense over how the story is developing. But the story has been carefully treated to make you believe something while leading you down a totally different end.

I am surprised that hurt locker won over such a brilliant masterpiece!

bard!

love to walk, love to run, would love to fly if I can.
love the sun, love the beach, love the feeling of sand on my feet.

sipped a malt, on the rocks, but only himalayas gave me the kick.
lit a joint, smoked a puff, but that doesnt really take me on a trip.

take the road, take the sea, for thats a gods decree.
I shall wander the earth, there in lies the key to set my soul free.

The Hippie's words of Wisdom

I once met a firang on the brigade road in bangalore. This one was different, or was he a normal firang,Well I let you decide. He was wearing a saffron dhoti, rose coloured cotton shirt, shaven head with a mullet and a bright read vaishnavite "namam" on his forehead. He was carrying a cloth bag with some books in it. He caught me unawares and tried to start a conversation with me. I could immediately gather that he was trying to raise money by selling those philisophy books in his bag.I would, In his opinion he was trying to propagate the ISKCON philosophy.

The conversation was slowly getting into a debate mode, we me being very defensive. I had already made up my mind that I am not going to buy anything from him but didnt want to lose an argument either. He asked me about my goals in life and I rolled out things that werent much different from the list you see in my earlier post. He said " you are chasing wrong things in life, all things material, all things that are ethereal". I countered "You are a loser who doesnt even aspire to achieve". He said "I had all these and more in life when I was in US and I left all these after I realized how shallow materialistic life is" and went on to say "Consider this, you are chasing your goals, nice cars, fancy houses and riches, do you thin you will achieve them, or even if you did would you stop wanting more? You are like a person chasing his own shadows. You will never be able to catch your shadow. You turnback and run towards the sun, and the shadows will chase you".

I went silent, I just made an excuse and got away from there. Considering that this was about 10 years ago, I have grown to realise how difficult it is to chase the sun. We all chase our shadows, just because it makes us feel happy, gives us a sense of importance. In reality it is a substitute for the lack of courage to turn back and face the sun.

existential angst

When I see my old people, it does scare me a bit. Scares me not because i am worried about them, but because I am worried about myself. To me life already seems to be a bit of a stretch and I have probably not even lived half my life. And the worst part is I have not achieved nothing or import. Humans have a self preservation instinct. I have mine, Dreams. vivid and clear. they are with me everyday of my life. So near yet so far. I only hope that these dreams fuse into reality seamlessly someday. And so ... I thought I would share a partial list of my dreams. Partial because, I will not include the ones about seducing katrina kaif or yana gupta :).

1. To travel 30 countries before I turn 40 (I have done only 5 so far)
2. To have a million dollars in my account before I turn 40
3. To make a movie ( previously, this used to be to make a well appreciated art piece, could be anything music, painting, sculpture etc but I think movie is quite possible... and most probably an animation)
4. Own a beach house (well lets make it a mansion)
5. To own a 40 Footer

Before Sunrise

I caught "Before Sunrise" last night on TV. Its a movie that I have been sort of not sure whether to watch. Heard of this cpl of years ago from a friend who is into offbeat movies. Yesterday when it was running on UTV World Movies I gave in, even though the movie had already started and the first 20 mins were already over. The movie falls under what i call, pointless, plotless, in general aimless romace movies genre. It is something which is pseudo intellectual, and unlike W.Allen's movies acknowledges its own pseudo intellectuality. After having watched "Vicky cristina barcelona" very recently, "Before Sunrise" does seem far better. On the whole a must watch. I have also decided to watch "before sunset" the sequel to "Before Sunrise"
